Radiology Exam Required in Pennyslvania

In Chicago, on June 18, 2009 - It was passed that dental assistants in Pennsylvania are now required to pass the Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam, which is administered by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB), in order to meet state requirements to perform dental radiological procedures legally in the dental office.

This brings the total to 37 states, plus Washington, DC, that recognize or require dental  assistants to pass one or more of the Dental Assisting National Board's (DANB)national exams in order to meet state dental assisting rules or regulations. The Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry's requirement of the Dental Assisting National Board's (DANB) Radiology Health Saftey (RHS) exam brings the dental assisting profession one step closer to national professional uniformity.

For more information on the Dental Assisting National Board's (DANB) Radiology Health Safety exam (RHS), visit www.danb.org or call 1-800-FOR-DANB. You may also contact The Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry at www.dos.state.pa.us or by calling 717-783-7162.

                       Continuing Education

The Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry requires all dentists, hygienists and expanded function dental assistants to take continuing education every renewal period. Click here for an article in the February 2013 State Board of Dentistry newsletter explaining this requirement.

The PDAA and our local dental assisting societies offer courses to help you meet these requirements. The ADAA also offers many online courses that are FREE to ADAA members. Please visit our "Meetings and Seminars" page for current information.

Congratulations Expanded Functions Dental Assistants

The Pennsylvania Dental Assistants Association would like to congratulate all of our dental assistants who passed the Pennsylvania Expanded Functions Dental Assistants (EFDA) exam.  As part of your permit, Expanded Functions Dental Assistants are required to take 10 hours of State Board of Dentistry approved continuing education courses every two years.
